Loading Libraries In Illustrator 9 and 10

This example shows how to load brush libraries, but the same process is used to load style, swatch, or symbol (symbols are available in Illustrator 10 only) libraries as well.

Go to Window > Brush libraries and choose the brush library from the flyout menu.

Choose a brush library to load

In the Illustrator work area a new palette appears. The brushes are not added to the existing brushes palette unless you use them.

A new palette appears in the work area.

If you open additional brush libraries, Illustrator will either add tabs to the new palette, or open another one. If there is a pattern to this I haven't found it.
